The Kenya Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis Eradication Council (KENTTEC) today received a consignment of laboratory equipment and supplies from the IAEA. This is within the framework of the IAEA-funded Regional Project, RAF5087 which is about enhancing Regional capacity for the implementation of the Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) as a Component for area-wide tsetse and trypanosomiasis management.
The consignment worth 21,249.40 Euros comprised of binocular dissecting stereomicroscopes, GPS receivers, dissecting kits, Ngu traps, Biconical traps and tsetse attractants (phenol and acetone). Other than procurement of laboratory equipment and supplies, the Project coordinates and organizes for meetings/workshops, fellowships/scientific visits, training courses and experts missions/Home-based assignments among others.
The consignment was received by the Project’s Counterpart/Director of Surveillance and Control, Mr. Isaiah Ndaburu Kiteto during an occasion graced by KENTTEC Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Seth O. Onyango and the Director of Corporate Services, Mr. Cyrus W. Muiru.

The RAF5087 project is implemented in Kenya with KENTTEC as the Counterpart Institution while the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) is the Alternate Counterpart Institution. The two (2) institutions represent Kenya among the twenty-one (21) Member States implementing the project in Africa.
