Following heavy rains, there is sprouting of bushes along River Sabaki and Jilore forest in Kilifi County.
Complaints have been lodged by residents living around River Sabaki and Jilore forest on suspected presence of tsetse flies and cases of African Animal Trypanosomiasis (AAT)/ Nagana.
Tsetse transmit AAT/ Nagana in livestock while in humans they transmit Human African Trypanosomiasis (HAT) also known as Sleeping sickness.
KENTTEC in collaboration with County Government of Kilifi conducted #tsetse surveillance to determine presence or absence of #tsetse in the area.
The bushy conditions favors the Fusca spp.- forest type.
The Council set up sixty (60) tsetse traps in bid to establish presence or absence of tsetse flies.
If tsetse flies are present, control initiatives through the North Coast Regional Office will be initiated.
