KENTTEC hosted this year’s 36th General Conference of the International Scientific Council for Trypanosomiasis Research and Control which was held on 18th to 22nd September 2023 in Mombasa, Kenya.
This year’s theme was ‘Sustainable Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis Control for Socio-Economic Development.’
The event was graced by H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, The Deputy President of Kenya and The Principal Secretary State Department of Livestock Development Jonathan Mueke.
The Deputy President applauded KENTTEC for its efforts in controlling the spread of the tsetse fly transmitted sleeping sickness in humans and Nagana in livestock, whose eradication in animals and humans, will not only save Kenya over Ksh. 20 billion annually, but also put the sub-sector on track in building the economy of Kenya.
The Deputy President assured the delegates that Kenya will work with partners to eliminate the diseases in livestock and humans because these sub-sectors are central to the Manufacturing Pillar of the Kenya Kwanza Plan as the Country targets to spark and spur the leather industry.
