PATTEC AU 2017-07-11T08:16:39+00:00

The Heads of States and Governments in 2000 in Lome Togo made the decision (Decision AHG/156 (XXXVI) of the 36th Assembly of Heads of State and Government) to eradicate tsetse and trypanosomiasis in Africa.
This decision culminated in the formation of the Pan-African Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis Eradication Campaign (PATTEC) initiative in Burkina Faso in October 2001 and the subsequent establishment of coordination unit at the commission of African Union (AU) Addis Ababa to implement the plan of Action.
Since PATTEC was launched, the Coordination Office based at the African Union Commission has made Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis problem more visible. Consequently all the affected countries have embarked on activities to suppress and ultimately eradicate Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis.
